Matrix is a series of multi-color silk screen prints, all designed using the same grid. This grid was created using three different layers: the first layer is a basic 12 x 12 unit grid bisected with 45° angles; the next two layers are comprised of concentric squares. The layers create a spider web-like geometic field on which the prints were designed. The first two prints are 8 x 8 inches and use the same design but differ in the number of colors and the use of positive-negative interaction. The final print is 11 x 11 inches and more complex than the first two. The final design required three screens to print and utilizes the grid, color, and line work to imply dimension. These prints were silk-screened by hand and float mounted in a frame.
